Mosquito Control

As we begin to dry out after our recent heavy rainfalls, we are left with one pesky problem…Mosquitoes.

Mosquito larvae are present in most standing water until the mosquito larvae develop into adult mosquitoes. An efficient way to control mosquitoes is to find and eliminate their larval habitat of standing water.  Empty out any containers of standing water, such as bird baths, dog bowls, saucers of flowerpots, buckets, and small portable children’s swimming pools. Clean debris from rain gutters and check around faucets and air conditioner units, and repair leaks and puddles. Eliminating standing water will help, but it doesn’t always completely eliminate mosquitoes. Homeowners can reduce the number of areas where mosquitoes can find shelter by cutting down weeds adjacent to the house and in their yards and mowing the lawn regularly.

TLC carries a variety of commercial products to help with controlling mosquito populations.

Bio Advanced Complete Insect Killer is available as a granule and a spray. This can be applied to the yard and in flowerbeds. It can also be sprayed around the perimeter of the house. This product also helps control ants, fleas, ticks, or grasshoppers.

Mosquito Beater is available as a spray that is a contact control, but it also has up to a 4-week residual. It can be sprayed in the yard, flower beds, and around the perimeter of the house.

Mosquito Dunks and Mosquito Bits are biological controls to be placed in areas of standing water to kill mosquito larvae before they develop into adult mosquitoes. They are safe to be placed in bird baths and fish habitats. They can also be placed in water gardens, flower pots, rain barrels, and roof gutters.

TLC also carries several plants that are known to help repel mosquitoes. Catnip, Citronella Plant, Lemon Grass, and Lemon Thyme can be planted in flowerbeds and pots as a mosquito repellent.
