This perennial is tried and true in the hot Oklahoma summer sun. Verbena is a great source of vibrant color for hanging containers, windows boxes and garden beds alike. Reds, pinks, whites and purples pop in the landscape.
Like Phlox, Verbena comes in tall and creeping. The majority of the time, though, creeping Verbena is what is found in the Oklahoma landscape. Be wary as both annual and perennial varieties exist for this plant. Most creeping varieties reach 12” tall maximum while their taller cousins can grow to around 4’ in some instances.
For a low maintenance option that can take the summer heat and thrive in it along with the excellent color it provides with constant bloom cycles, you won’t find a better choice for your garden.
