The Facts

Height: 1.5′ – 9′ Spread: 0.5′ – 1′ Sun: Full Sun Water: Medium Soil: Any Growth Rate: Fast

This particular member of the sunflower family, Rudbeckia (Black-Eyed Susan), is a true North American native. The Native American tribes used it as a cure for colds, the flu and many other things. Large yellow flower heads with brown or black centers protrude on tall, fuzzy stems with their foliage staying lower to the ground. Though yellow is the predominant hue of Rudbeckia, through breeding oranges, reds and browns have emerged along with varying sizes of plants.

Because it has such a large center and features such bright colors it attracts pollinators. Rudbeckia is an excellent choice for wildflower and perennial cottage gardens.
