Hellebores, sometimes called Lenten Rose, are an amazing perennial choice for shade and woodland gardens. Like many plants throughout time, the Hellebore was used in early medicine. It would treat paralysis, gout and a number of other diseases. Although it is also highly toxic and can cause cardiac arrest if used improperly.

Delicate petal cups surround stamens full of nectar. Hues of whites, pinks and reds make up the majority of this plant; with a few naturally green colored petals thrown in. Another mid-height perennial, this plant is great for use as a border, in perennial beds as an accent or in containers. This late winter to mid-spring bloomer is definitely one to consider for your landscape.
