Peonies with Cindy Townsend: Good companion plants: Blue Arrow Juniper, Graham Blandy Boxwood, Euonymus, Red Heuchera, Helleborous (Lenten Rose), Eupotorium; Afternoon shade, morning sun.

Container with Peony, Ajuga, Impatiens, Tradescandia.

Stake or cage peonies.

Colors available: White, pink, bicolor, Rachel (almost red).

Prune flower stem to foliage to give it a better look after flower is spent.

Use Bonide Eight to kill aphids when they attack the blooms.

April’s Mother’s Day Ideas:

Marching Orders:

1.     Call Mom or go see her and help plant flowers.

2.     Help plant flowers with another older adult or teach a child to love gardening.

3.     Add color to established garden.

4.     Feed plants with slow release fertilizers.

5.      Dead head and pinch back old blooms.
