Habitat for Birds with Brian Pirtle: 3 elements required for habitat: 1. Water, 2. Cover, 3. Food

2.     Cover Plants:  Green Giant Arborvitae, Ornamental grasses for cover and seeds, Holly provides cover plus berries.

3.      Plants for food and nector:  Butterflies/hummingbirds:  Penta, red geraniums, skull cap, Penstemon, verbena, cat mint, Salvia May Night, Nicotinia, Parsley, Dill, Yarrow, Gaillardia, Petunias, Angelonia

 

April’s Wild & Wooly Pots: Child’s wagon, Tire,  3 tier hanging basket, Toilet bowl, chair, denim jean shorts,

 

Shaun’s Backyard Makeover: Espalier peach, pear and apple treesFoster Holly to cover pole, ground cover in patio stone, assorted Sedums, creeping thyme, and other pathway plants.  Pondless waterfall.

 

Marching Orders:

1.     Attend Hands-on California style hanging basket clinic today at TLC, 105 W. Memorial, 10 am –2 pm.

2.     Get your lawn fed and lawn work done this weekend so you can play Memorial Day weekend.

 

Email Question: What can I use in a shady area instead of Fescue?  Use something like dwarf mondo, moneywort or any number of stepable or pathway plants.  There are lots of choices.  Use Preen to prevent weeds after you get plants established.
